Holly Charles is the author of Velvet (initially written as her English Creative Thesis as Velvet: the Burden of Melanin and Motherhood). Her latest literary effort, a play entitled In All Thy Getting: The Forgotten Story of Freedmen’s Town, is a joint venture between the arts community and the Rutherford B.H. Yates Museum, purposed with raising awareness and funds towards the conservation of Houston 4th Ward’s rich African American History.
Quote: I create what it is I want to be and what kind of mark I want to leave on the world.
