Generation One: The Search for Black Wealth With Lamar & Ronnie Tyler

July 20, 2015 by Ngome

In 2007, the Tyler’s had a vision to highlight the positive aspects of marriage and parenting in the African-American community on a blog named BlackandMarriedWithKids.com. The simple, yet dynamic title has resonated beyond its belief reaching millions through valuable content, authentic engagement and has become the largest African-American marriage and parenting site. Lamar and Ronnie operate Tyler New Media, Inc. specializing in online branding, digital consulting and documentary creation. They have been acknowledged in ESSENCE Magazine, Parenting Magazine, Ebony Magazine’s Power 100 and 2015 finalists for Infusionsoft’s Small Business ICON award. Find out how their passion and purpose continues to grow their business.

Show Notes:

  • Connection: Purchased Gatekeepers (book) in 2013/2014; mutual friend – Pancakes&Cider; met at Blogging While Brown Conference ’15.
  • Mission: To uplift and support marriages in our community.
  • 3 P’s:
    • Passion – Is what drives us.
    • Purpose – Keeps us going.
    • Profit – Sustains the passion and purpose
    • Without the profit you can’t sustain your passion and purpose.
  • We found our passion, discovered our purpose and the profit is a by product.
  • We had a passion for showing an entirely different segment of the African-American relationship that the media did not show.
  • Passion don’t pay the bills.
  • Money doesn’t always fulfill you and drive you forward. Money doesn’t bring everyone to rally around your mission.
  • If you want to take your business to a certain level, you have to be intentional in your processes or sales in order to make your business grow.
  • For the first time ever the middle man has been removed – The Gatekeepers Are Gone: Hustle + Technology = Success
  • Because of social media we have the ability and low cost of technology we can create amazing content.
  • CRUSH Mentality – Can’t Rest Until Something Happens
  • The CRUSH is nervous energy that propels you to move forward.
  • Traffic, Sales & Profit comes from the three biggest areas entrepreneurs have problems when it comes to growing their business and online marketing.
  • A lot of times we need to connect to people outside of our circle to really understand we don’t know what we don’t know.
  • Traffic, Sales & Profit Facebook group is a community of like-minded entrepreneurs.
  • When you have economic power your money speaks for you.
  • We need the financial power behind us to implement changes.
  • It starts with education than we can build wealth, economic power then comes political power and we can start our systems that are long term.
  • Networking is a seed that you plant today and it will grow.
  • You need to have someone in your circle that knows more than you.
  • Mentorship is vital for your business.
  • Infusionsoft helped grow our business. It gives us the ability to automate a lot of our processes.
  • Success is growth, moving forward and ever evolving.
