Creating a Content Marketing Strategy

August 8, 2016 by Ngome

We elaborate from last weeks episode of an overview of creating a marketing strategy to specifically focusing on a content marketing strategy. Lately I have been stressing the importance of content creation and content marketing because people know they need to be on social media, but they do not know what to say. That is a big problem. I believe if you know what to say to your audience by producing content and can promote that through social media.

Content is your (digital) communication to your audience.

Content Marketing is taking the content you create and promoting it through various channels.

Forms of Content:

  • Written
  • Visuals
  • Audio

Types of Content:

  1. Personal Story
  2. Blogs
  3. Interviews
  4. Books and ebooks
  5. Information/Resource Guides
  6. Webinars
  7. White Papers
  8. Bios
  9. Press Releases
  10. Infographs
  11. Lists
  12. Events
  13. Timelines
  14. GIFs & Memes
  15. Cartoons
  16. Video & Livestream
  17. Data
  18. Curating content
  19. Surveys
  20. FAQs
  21. Testimonials & Reviews (products, books, etc)
  22. Email Marketing
  23. Courses
  24. Quotes
  25. Case Studies
  26. Product Demos
  27. Worksheets & Templates
  28. Presentations
  29. Speaking Engagement
  30. Contest
  31. Challenges
  32. Twitter Chat
  33. Text Messages

Repurposing Content is taking one piece of content and creating multiple forms or types to distribute on various channels.

Allow your content to educate, inspire, build trust as you become a valuable resource to your audience.

4 Questions To Ask Yourself

  2. What is my goal? Examples drive traffic, convert more prospects, increase visibility, grow email lists.
  3. How do I want to promote my content? Social media, paid ads
  4. How often do I want to create, publish, and promote my content?

Steps To A Content Strategy

  1. Create a list of topics and core messages.
  2. Create a content calendar (write, publish, and promote).
  3. Create a workflow – a system from start to finish including your team. (writing, interviews, editors, repurpose).
  4. Content audits – review your website on a regular basis (monthly, quartely, etc)
