Last month, I had the pleasure of meeting Dion Metzger, MD at the Blogging While Brown Conference. Metzger is a board certified adult psychiatrist who is passionate about the advocacy of mental illness.
We had an intriguing conversation during the conference and I was fortunate enough to carry that over to the podcast. We discussed a variety of topics from her path to becoming a physician, Charleston and the state mental health in the African-American community. Below are some highlights of what was discussed.
Show Notes:

· I see technology as a good thing because it brings awareness and with awareness we bring more change to what’s going on. I see it as nothing but a positive. We have to know what’s going on in order to change it.
· We have to remember there’s good in all people.
· One person’s actions do not represent a whole race.
· Depression can be just as paralyzing as physical illness as you don’t have the motivation to get out of bed, your sleep and appetite changes. It can affect you from head to toe.
· The beautiful thing about depression is it can be treated.
· Everybody can benefit from therapy because you are spending time with a non-bias person.
· You telling your story is therapeutic.
· Talking to a professional can make a difference.
· Relationships are common reasons to see a therapist.
· Success is what you are currently doing compared to what you are created to do.
· When you get up everyday and you are happy doing what you are doing. Success is happiness.
